Create a to do list...

It's time to create a To-Do-List!

If you already work with a To-do-list, then you are aware of its tremendous value!   In those times of overwhelm and stress go back to your list and read the items you’ve listed one by one, it will help you to focus.

All you need is a simple writing pad and a pencil or pen.  Begin by dating it and then place a number before each task.

As you complete the task put a line through it – that’s the best way – it’s a great feeling of satisfaction crossing off that task and knowing it’s finished.  Now you can go on to the next one.

These white or yellow pads are available at a local store or conveniently order them from Amazon or your favorite online store. Just get them!

Don’t wait to take advantage of a To-Do-List – start now, you’ll be glad you did!

I've chosen one that I like to use – Click the yellow pad image below to purchase it for yourself.

Remember, when you begin to feel overwhelmed
stop for a moment to  s  l  o  w  down!

… Start by taking those “deep breathes” we talked about in the "breathing techniques" article.

When you begin feeling overwhelmed and stressed, find a quiet spot, whether you’re in your home, your place of work, traveling or running errands, take a few deep breathes. Deep breathing for a few minutes will greatly help you in winding down; it clears the mind,  relieves tension, and gives your brain plenty of oxygen.

Drink a glass of purified water – it’s surprising how a simple glass of clean, fresh water will clear the mind and even calm your nerves.

In a relaxed mode you’ll be able to make the decisions at hand with clarity, more quickly and with ease.

It's time to set realistic goals!

Tasks List: Set Realistic Goals! We all have them… those times when suddenly everything has be worked on and completed NOW, and then…

… someone asks for help  — “I hate to ask you for this favor cause I know you’re really busy, but, would you mind helping me with…”.

You cringe and smile, saying "sure, I'd be happy to help", only to feel the stress in your gut and the self-imposed pressure of taking on more than you should.  Soooo… learn to say no – you know you would be overwhelmed with this added work if you committed to take the project, task, errand, whatever it may be, but that feeling of obligation nags!

… And then there are those times when we give ourselves more tasks than necessary. It’s not always others that we should say “no, I don’t have time now to do this”, but to ourselves!

Learn to eliminate an activity when it isn’t absolutely necessary to complete immediately.

Stop for a moment and ask yourself …

  • Does it need to be done now, or can it wait?

If the project is important then continue to ask these questions:

  • What steps need to be taken to complete this task or project?
  • Could I get help – someone to assist me with some of the work?
  • Is the deadline realistic?

Ask for help… from your kids, your husband.

Hire someone to help you out with things that don’t need your personal attention. It might come as a surprise to some of us, but, we really don’t have to do everything ourselves. (I'm still working on this one)

And finally… be kind to yourself and to others: No one is perfect, we all make mistakes,  so don't expect perfection from yourself or others.

How do you handle overwhelm?  Have you been able to take control of your time?

I'd love to hear what you do to help with your TO DO's.

Share your tips with us below in the "comments" section.
